DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Our latest Athlete of the Week has basketball in his blood.
For 41 years, Jim Boeheim has been coaching and mentoring athletes at Syracuse. His number one fan, his son, Buddy, has now turned into a dynamic player for the Jamesville-Dewitt Red Rams.
“He just always helping me. He is just always watching me, seeing what I can do better; helping my confidence. Just he inspires me,” Buddy said. “First game at the Carrier Dome just watching the players play. Watching my dad on the sidelines is definitely a special feeling. From that moment, just watching those games was special. I fell in love with it right then.”
His love for the game grew in the backyard playing against his brother. Sometimes his dad would have to put on the stripes to settle the score.
“It always ended up in tears or fights. I would go to my dad asking for calls or whether it was a foul or not. That rivalry has helped me and given me my competitive nature today. I couldn’t be more thankful for that,” Buddy said.
This season Buddy is averaging nearly 27 points and 10 rebounds a game for the 8-1 Red Rams.
