A Cayuga County woman must resign from her position as Springport Town Clerk after she pleaded guilty to falsifying her retirement records.
Deborah Waldron admitted that she falsified records and submitted them to the New York State Retirement System, using computer logins of another town employee without the employee’s knowledge.
A Comptroller’s Office audit revealed that from 2010 through Sept. 2015, Waldron repeatedly submitted records indicating that she had worked full-time hours, when in reality she only worked on a part-time status.
Had the fraud not been discovered, Waldron would have received substantially greater pension payments than she would be properly entitled to based on her part-time status when she retired.
Waldron was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay fines and surcharges totaling $755.
She is also required to submit her resignation from the office by Sept. 1.
