Winter is back:

Cold air has quickly moved back into central New York. Temperatures will be in the 20s this afternoon.

Since the below freezing temperatures is coming from the northwest, we have lake effect snow showers. The snow will be light in nature, and eventually tapers by this evening. Little to no accumulation is expected.

This weekend:

Colder temps and quieter conditions return with high pressure by the end of the week.

A weak weather system passes by to our south for Saturday. Our computer models have been having problems determining whether some light snow with this system makes it this far north.  We are going to put a low chance of some flurries or light snow for Saturday, especially for areas south of Syracuse.  If it does happen it shouldn’t amount to much.

Regardless if there is any snow around Saturday we will likely see some extra cloud cover along with temperatures back into the 20s. The weekend will end with seasonable (temperatures in the lower 30s) and quiet weather.

Temperature roller coaster continues:

By the end of the weekend the temperatures moderate back to average for mid-January, but that upward trend continues into next week. At least through the first half of next week temperatures could run 10-15 degrees above average.
