A permanent memorial is under construction for Maddox Lawrence in Syracuse’s Inner Harbor.
So far, the memorial consists of a bench and a plaque that reads “Maddox Lawrence, Rest in the arms of the Lord.” There may eventually be a surrounding area with flowers.
The memorial is placed near the area where Maddox’s body was found.
Alex Marion, a spokesperson for Mayor Stephanie Miner’s Office, said city staff worked closely with the family on constructing the memorial.
Marion said existing supplies were used along with in-house labor, so no new taxpayer funds were expended.
Maddox’s father, Ryan Lawrence, pleaded guilty to first and second-degree murder in connection with her death.
He will be sentenced 25 years to life in prison.
