Pretty quiet today:

Yesterday’s storm is out of here, but we still have some lingering moisture in the form of freezing drizzle and flurries.

That will taper briefly later this afternoon. The day features clouds with temperatures above average, highs near 40.

A new batch of moisture arrives later this evening. Rain showers and even milder temperatures ahead of the system spreads across CNY overnight tonight.

Our next storm:

A disturbance in the upper atmosphere over the Great Lakes will bring the chance for scattered rain or snow showers into the picture starting after sunset tonight.

Initially it may be a winter mix, but even warmer air will help change the precipitation over to all rain by Thursday morning.

The cold front associated to this system crosses Syracuse Thursday afternoon.

In the wake of the front some slightly cooler air will begin to filter into central New York.

The return of winter’s cold and lake effect:

After a break of winter and a little taste of spring the last few days, some colder air will make a come-back.  It is not brutally cold arctic air headed our way, more like typical late January cold air.

Lake effect snow showers are likely by tomorrow evening, especially for the Tug Hill.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow watch for Oswego, Lewis, and Jefferson counties beginning Thursday afternoon through the whole weekend; expiring Sunday afternoon.

There will be times where the Finger Lakes and the Syracuse area sees lake effect snow showers mainly from Lake Erie the end of the week and this weekend.

Temperatures by this weekend may not make it out of the 20s for highs.
