Some of our viewers can’t see NewsChannel 9 right now. Early Thursday morning, DirecTV dropped us from their lineup. WSYR-TV, NewsChannel 9, is one of the 120 Nexstar stations across the country dropped by AT&T, the operators of DirecTV. WSYR-TV’s corporate owner, Nexstar Media Group, offered to extend our current deal, but AT&T and DirecTV refused to continue negotiating.
Tuesday morning, Upstate New York Congressman Anthony Brindisi called on AT&T to negotiate with local stations and their ownership. He said, “These blackouts are a public safety issue. Many New Yorkers use local television to find out about breaking news, traffic accidents and important weather events. These blackouts need to end.”
We encourage customers to call DirecTV and let them know how you feel. Please call 800-531-5000.
