Corcoran stabbing suspect had 4 pending felony charges

News

A teenager accused of stabbing a substitute teacher who was trying to break up a fight at Corcoran High School pleaded not guilty on Friday morning.

Zhuantina Hayes has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

She also has four other pending felony charges – including robbery.

Orders of protection were issued for the teacher, and also for the student she was trying to stab during the incident on Thursday.

The 24-year-old teacher was treated at Upstate University Hospital for stab wounds to his chest, shoulder, and arm.

He has since been released from the hospital.

Hayes, who is defending herself, was jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 31.
