Cornell University’s President Elizabeth Garrett has passed after a battle with cancer, the school confirmed on Monday.
In early February the Ivy League school announced Garrett was undergoing aggressive treatment for the disease.
She was the first female president in the school’s history, but served only 8 months.
Garrett took over as Cornell President on July 1.
She served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Southern California since 2010.
A memorial gathering will be held on the Ithaca campus in the near future; details will be announced when available.
