Ahead of the 2017 budget, Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney is proposing a voluntary retirement incentive for eligible employees.

The proposal provides a one-time payment of $10,000 to each employee who leaves the county workforce by Dec. 31, 2016.

The proposal was submitted to the county legislature and will be considered on Monday.

If it’s accepted, the employees could begin the retirement process no later than Oct. 21.

Mahoney said county leadership is trying to “focus on re-imaging our government and becoming more efficient and effective for the benefit of the county’s residents.”
