Even though Hurricane Irma is still in the Caribbean, its impact is being felt all over the country.
Central New York natives Katie Burgwin and Andrew Menter were hit in a different way by the storm– their wedding day is set for Friday in Florida.
The storm has already had a devastating impact on the guest list, and part of the wedding party even had to cancel their trip.
“Our guest count went from 85 Central New Yorkers for a destination wedding, down to 25 and we’re blessed to have those who are here with us, but it’s sad,” Menter said.
Burgwin grew up in East Syracuse, but she always dreamed of marrying her school sweetheart, Menter, on the Siesta Key Beach in Florida.
The wedding was scheduled for this Friday, just as Hurricane Irma inches closer.
Sept. 8 is a special date for the couple– the pair started dating 10 years ago to the date, when they were in 8th grade.
The danger has already forced the couple to adapt their fairytale, while a worried family hopes for the best.
The pair said they aren’t going to let Irma stop them– they had wanted to get married on their 10 year anniversary for the longest time.
