Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has concluded their investigation into the death of Chemung County attorney Matthew Rosno.
Officials say Rosno suffered from hypothermia after extended exposure to the rain and snow, and the temperature dipping as low as 34 degrees after consuming several alcoholic beverages.
A toxicology report found that there were no other substances in Rosno’s system and they have ruled out any suspicious conditions or foul play as contributing factors.
Officials say Rosno consumed several alcoholic beverages on the evening of Dec. 21, 2018 after attending a Christmas party and visiting a separate establishment in Hanover Square in the Village of Horseheads.
Rosno was not wearing a coat, hat, or gloves when he left the establishment and continued in a southerly direction down S. Main St. At one point he crossed Lake Rd. and began walking east behind a farmhouse and continued in that direction through a large field.
He was found dead the following day in the field after officials pinged his cellphone.
A GoFundMe campaign designed to support the Rosno family has raised over $36,000.
