Dermatologists say stay away from charcoal masks

WSYR-TV - Sometimes beauty trends aren't all they're cracked up to be but the latest one could potentially be dangerous.

Dermatologists warn those who use charcoal masks that it could be doing more harm than good.

The combination of powdered charcoal and glue is supposed to rid your skin of dirt.

However, doctors say it's doing its job a little too well, ripping off a thin layer of protective skin.

They say you are actually making yourself more susceptible to breakouts.

Dermatologists recommend using gentle exfoliants which are much safer. You can even mix a little aloe vera with activated charcoal and rinse it off.
