The holiday shopping season isn’t over yet, but so far, it’s been a successful one for downtown Syracuse.
“There are tons of people down here seeing what options there are,’ said Cliff Carey, owner of American Reserve. In the age of online shopping, storefronts downtown have managed to keep customers coming back. John Massara, owner of Projex214, has noticed more spending this year than last.
“My average receipt is about 30 percent higher this year than it was last year,” he said. “People are coming in at the same rate, but they are spending more money.”
Monday’s aren’t normally a big day for shopping, but they are for handling orders. At Cathy’s Cookie Kitchen, more bake good are being sent out this year than last. It is also seeing plenty of walk-ins.
“So, they go shopping and grab something to eat, said Owner Cathy Pemberton. “They stop in for a cookie or dessert. It is nice it has been really nice and it is a really festive atmosphere.”
