What the I-81 community grid option will mean for your commute time

Future of 81

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) —  Locals and elected officials are still rifling through the 1,500-page report released by the New York State Department of Transportation, which favors the community grid.

According to the NYSDOT, their preferred community grid option would not have a significant impact on travel times — that is, once all the work is long completed.

NewsChannel 9’s Rob Hackford took a look at four of the biggest suburbs — Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool, Baldwinsville, and Cicero to see how long it would take to get to Syracuse hot-spots.

See those estimated travel times below or click here

The state’s estimated travel times to Destiny USA and other spots are almost exactly the same as what they are now.

There are, however, a few changes if you’re heading downtown. Neighbors east of the city might need an extra minute– same for the north.

For drivers in Liverpool and Cicero, the state’s report says you might actually save some time.

While construction is going on, there are guaranteed to be delays that you can’t predict right now.
