(WSYR-TV) — Federal officials are warning consumers they’re investigating a salmonella outbreak likely tied to whole, fresh papayas from Mexico.
The CDC says that the papayas were sold in eight states, including New York.
Local stores like Price Chopper have recalled the product and warn consumers to throw any papaya out.
So far 62 people have been infected with this particular strain of salmonella, 24 of those cases are in New York State.
Of all those who have fallen ill, 33 people had to be hospitalized. No deaths have been reported, however.
