For the 11th year in a row CNY Polar Plungers are ‘freezin for a reason’ to benefit the Special Olympics. For more than a decade, over $700,00 has been raised to help special Olympic athletes travel to participate in the Olympic Games.

Lindsey Mitchell is a special Olympics New York athlete and has participated in many different events from snowshoeing to skiing. She says that events like the Polar Plunge have helped her and and many other athletes participate in the Special Olympics.

The CNY Polar Plunge will be taking place on Sunday at Oneida Shores located at 9400 Bartell Road in Brewerton. Registration begins at 10am and the plunge starts at 1pm. Other Polar Plunges in the area include the Ithaca Polar Plunge on March 24 and the Sackets Harbor Polar Plunge on April 7.

Those who cannot make it to the event can still fundraise to support the cause. If you raise $100,  you’ll receive a free sweatshirt from the event. For more information visit Facebook.com/CentralNYPlunge.
