13 arrested in Syracuse synthetic drug bust

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse Police have made a potential breakthrough in a recent string of synthetic overdoses.

Officers raided a home on Merriman Avenue related to a drug investigation just before 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

They arrested thirteen people. Six of them were charged with the sale of synthetic drugs and various other charges. The rest were charged with possession.

Detectives recovered 53 Phenobarbital tablets, small amounts of cocaine and heroin, 5 grams of marijuana and 50 grams of synthetic cannabinoids.

Syracuse Police tell us they are not sure if these are the same drugs linked to the string of overdoses NewsChannel 9 reported on Wednesday.

"At this point, we still have not identified the specific "spike" product that is causing the overdoses," said Sgt. Rick Helterline.
