14-year-old boy arrested for stealing car with children inside: Police

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse Police Department have arrested a 14-year-old boy after he drove away with a vehicle with two children in the back seat.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Midland Ave. for a robbery call Sunday around 2:10 p.m. An investigation found that a 28-year-old woman had parked the car with her two children, ages 6 and 7 inside when the 14-year-old got into the vehicle and drove off.

The mother chased after the car and was dragged behind it, suffering minor injuries. A nearby driver used their car to block the teen in.

The teen suspect then ran off and was later caught by a bystander. He was charged with robbery in the second degree, kidnapping in the second degree, reckless endangerment, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and 2 counts of Endangering the welfare of a child.

The children were found unharmed in the back seat.
