16-year-old steals car, leads SPD on police chase after burglary

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) A 16-year-old boy was taken into police custody after leading police on a vehicle chase Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:38 a.m. officers responded to the 100 block of Guilford Road for a reported burglary in progress.

As an officer was arriving to the scene he saw a vehicle quickly leaving the area. The Officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which prompted a car chase lasting approximately four minutes.

The vehicle eventually collided into a tree at the intersection of Columbus Avenue at Lexington Avenue.

The 16-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle, who will not be identified because of their age, then ran away until he was finally caught up to by officers.

The vehicle was later found to have been stolen in the burglary and belonged to the victim.
