19 stores in Camillus tested for underage alcohol sales, 2 cited

CAMILLUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Operation Prom and Celebration Enforcement (PACE) put 19 grocery, liquor, and convenience stores to the test Thursday night.

Camillus Police invited NewsChannel 9’s Christie Casciano for the undercover sting.

PACE’s mission is to make sure that during high school celebration season, local stores aren’t selling alcohol to minors.

They sent in a 20-year-old man as a decoy to test local stores in the Town of Camillus — and two failed to check his i.d. and decline the sale.

Camillus Police issued citations to the A&A Mart (4137 W. Genesee Street) and Sunoco Runway (20 Genesee Street).

Police say clerks and store owners need to be vigilant about checking identification.

“The message tonight? Don’t sell to anyone under 21, check for i.d.,” said Sgt. Mike Schreyer.
