SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On the day before we celebrate our nation’s Independence Day, people are celebrating Harriet Tubman and her commitment to freedom.
The 2019 National Harriet Tubman Freedom Award Winners were announced Wednesday morning at Syracuse City Hall.
While the winners are from across the country, three of those winners were from Syracuse.
Deputy Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens was one of last year’s winners.
A special ceremony will be held at the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center on Saturday, July 13th.
