Hundreds lace-up to help send local burn victims to camp

Local News

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) East Syracuse was heating up on Sunday as hundreds of runners hit the pavement for the annual Burn Run.

It’s hosted by the East Syracuse Fire Department to raise money for the Burn Foundation of Central New York. The foundation helps children with injuries go to burn camp, allowing them to experience that right of passage with other kids their age suffering the same injuries.

East Syracuse Fire Department President and Race Director, Paul Knierman said it’s a wonderful feeling to see the community come together to support such an important cause.

“Luckily, sometimes we get some of the survivors to come out with us too and run the race,” Knierman said. “Last year we had one of the guys come and pushed one of the survivors through the whole 5k course,” Knierman said.

Last year the race raised $10,300 for the foundation and they’re hoping to raise even more this year.
