3 arrested for allegedly attempting to scam people using a child who has cancer

Local News

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three people from Oswego County accused of going door-to-door to scam residents out of money utilizing a photo of a 6-year-old girl who was diagnosed with cancer.

Using a picture from LocalSYR.com, scammers went door-to-door asking for cash for Kicking it with Kaylee. They had claimed to be a relative of 6-year-old Kaylee Marshfield.

After learning of the scam, her family made it clear they never go door-to-door.

The Better Business Bureau says always ask to see a credential of some kind when someone knocks at your door and don’t feel pressure to give money right away.

The suspects solicited money from neighborhoods in the area of Bridgeport, Onondaga Hill, Liverpool and the City of Syracuse, receiving hundreds of dollars.

Roger Dunn, 44, Nicole Dunn, 34, and Earl Woodridge, 27, were all charged with first-degree scheme to defraud, second-degree criminal impersonation and first-degree attempt to scheme and defraud.

All three are being held at the Justice Center awaiting arraignment this evening in Centralized Court.

Aside from the arrests, some other good news came for the family: Kaylee is now cancer free.
