LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — Remember James Holzhauer? You couldn’t have possibly forgotten about him yet.

Holzhauer was one of Jeopardy’s most notable contestants, winning $2.4 million over a course of 33 games.

This was just shy of Ken Jennings’ record of $2.5 million, but Jennings’ game show fortune was amassed in more than twice that time. He appeared in 75 episodes.

Earlier this month, Holzhauer’s luck came to an end, and for one local fan, that meant heartbreak.

Natalie, a five-year-old from Lancaster, watched Holzhauer extend his Jeopardy streak every night he was on the air.

Devastated by his loss to Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher, Natalie decided to write “Jeopardy James” a letter.

It appears the odds were in Natalie’s favor, as the professional sports gambler wrote her back.

The friendly note from Holzhauer said the following:

“Hi Natalie,

Thanks so much for your awesome letter! Your dad says you’re already studying to be on Jeopardy yourself. I wonder what your profession will be when you make it on the show? I’m the first professional sports gambler in the show’s history; maybe you can be something equally exciting. Based on your letter, I’m thinking maybe author!

Parallel to the note, on the other side of the card, was a drawing of a Jeopardy answer box which read “What is Thanks for the letter, Natalie!”
