The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a deadly crash that occurred in the Town of Mexico.
Deputies say 9-year-old Cara Snyder, of Lacona, Oswego County, was killed when the sedan she was riding in collided with a tractor trailer.
First responders were called to the intersection of U.S. Route 11 and State Route 104 around 12:18 p.m. on Sunday.
Investigators say a 2006 Kenworth tractor trailer was heading west on State Route 104 and a 2000 Volkswagen sedan was traveling north on U.S. Route 11 when the two collided.
The Sheriff’s Office says Snyder was brought to Oswego Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the sedan was brought to Upstate University hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. That driver is expected to recover.
The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
Snyder attended Sandy Creek schools last year, and superintendent Kyle Faulkner said “she was an excellent student and a sweet girl.”
Counselors at that district have been made available to talk to students impacted by her death.
