A call for help as rock star Benny Mardones’ health gets worse

Local News

A public plea — as 80’s rock star Benny Mardones’ health issues continue to worsen.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the 72-year-old singer, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2002.

The page says the singer is bedridden, fighting infections and is awaiting surgery for a complete hip replacement.

The hope is to raise $75,000, which will go toward a nurse, a wheelchair, and other medical devices needed to accommodate his lengthy recovery.

Mardones performed his final concert last December at the Turning Stone, sitting down to talk to Carrie Lazarus just days before. “I said there’s no way I’m not going to say goodbye if I’m leaving the stage forever,” Mardones said. “I owe the city of Syracuse and my friends that.”
