Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli helped secure a more than $200,000 grant to transform a baseball field in the heart of the Northside into a soccer field. The Assemblyman says the new field perfectly suits the new immigrant population, who would much rather kick than throw the ball.
“They pick up their soccer balls and head to the fields to play soccer,” said Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli.
Dale Johnson of Tillie’s Touch coaches many of the kids who will use this field, he says this field is just the beginning.
“Let’s face it, we need an outlet for these kids, we need an opportunity for them to get off the streets and get into something constructive,” said Johnson.
Assemblyman Magnarelli says he isn’t sure when the field will open, he’s hoping by the latest, it will open next summer.
