Auburn Police have arrested a man who allegedly wrote “check on your kids, shooting at Auburn High School” on Facebook, when there was no shooting or a threat of a shooting.
Police say on Dec. 17, Corey Brown posted the warning on Facebook, and offices at the Auburn High School and the Harriet Tubman Administration Building were inundated with calls from parents concerned about the safety of their children.
Knowing there was no threat and that the information was false, officers and administrators worked throughout the day to quell the disruption the incident caused.
Brown was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor.
He was located at his place of employment on Wednesday and arrested.
Brown was arraigned in Auburn City Court and released on his own recognizance.
