NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — A Baldwinsville man and Vietnam War Veteran was honored on Tuesday in Albany.

Sergeant Howard Rose was in the state capital for the ceremonies. He trained as a light infantryman.

In his time overseas, Rose earned a combat infantry badge, expert rifleman, commendation medal and Vietnam campaign medal.

Rose talked about his experiences while serving our country.

“For me, I was 19-years-old, I didn’t know much about the war,” Rose said. “I was drafted into the Army and like my fathers and my uncles and so on, I gladly took in the, you know, call for duty.”

The Hall of Fame honored veterans from New York who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.

NewsChannel 9’s Farah Jadran has interviewed Sgt. Rose about a diary he kept while in Vietnam. To see that story, click here.
