A pretty popular TV spot for Syracuse University has been airing for several years and has run during major SU Athletics contests.
The TV spot blares The Velvet Underground’s well-known track “Head Held High” and touts some of the university’s biggest moments in history and some of its most famous faces.
Celebs and other prominent people like Dick Clark, Taye Diggs, Joe Biden, Eileen Collins, Aaron Sorkin, Bob Costas and Jim Brown are among those featured in the long-running ad.
Fast forward to 2018 and ‘Cuse students are still holding their heads high, but with a new message, “Be Orange.”
The new campaign focuses on current students with a few recent alumni as well.
Among them, Megan Forbes, a junior in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and 2018 graduate, Justyn Knight, a standout runner who claimed the 2017 NCAA title in men’s cross country.
Forbes tells NewsChannel 9 she never thought she “would be that face,” but says the confidence she has gained from her fellow students, teachers and the classes she has taken make her proud to Be Orange.
The new ad campaign has been airing during recent athletic contests, but it’s biggest stage could very well be Saturday’s football broadcast of SU versus Note Dame in Yankee Stadium.
Be Orange shares stories of each student’s journey by choosing a color that represents their passion, but all lead back to Otto’s respective color.
The campaign also goes far beyond campus with wall wraps freshly installed at the Syracuse Airport.
Several students can be seen near security checkpoint. You’ll see Forbes’ “Blue Sky Thinking” in Terminal B and Knight’s “Good as Gold” message at baggage claim.
