Bikes For Boyd takes place at Boyd Park in Solvay

Local News

SOLVAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Kids looking for a bike had a chance to snag on Wednesday evening as part of Bikes for Boyd. The event took place at Boyd Park in Solvay.

John Galvin is the brains behind it all. He’s been volunteering his time to fix up bikes and then give them to those in need.

“I see kids with bad bikes, with broken ones or missing bikes and all the negative publicity in Solvay about, ‘oh my kid’s bike got stolen’ or ‘my bike got stolen’ or you know ‘I need a bike to get to work’ and I had some bikes so I started giving them out and fixing the ones that were broken and it really exploded from there,” Galvin said.

Not only were bikes given away, but folks could also bring theirs over and get repairs made.
