Bison still roaming in Otsego County

Local News

OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The search for 75 missing bison in Otsego County continues.

The bison have been on the loose since breaking through a fence on a Schoharie County farm last Thursday, just east of where the escaped bison are believed to be right now.

Owner Brian Grubb says he is thankful he didn’t lose all 200 of his animals. There are still 125 in safe keeping at his home.

Grubb says these herd animals usually like to stick together.

“The good news is they’ve been sighted very close to home, so we are encouraged by that,” Grubb said. “They’re not very comfortable with many people and that’s one thing we want the public to know. Human interference can slow down our ability to get these animals home healthy and safe”

Grubb says the bison are not aggressive, but if you spot them, the best thing to do is call State Police at (315) 868-1122.
