Brindisi highlights legislation to stop cars from passing stopped school buses

Local News

NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) — New safety measures are being made in the wake of the viral video showing a Norwich school bus driver saving one of her students as a car whizzed by.

Congressman Anthony Brindisi is co-sponsoring legislation to stop such incidents from happening again.

The Stop for School Buses Act would direct a comprehensive, nationwide review of efforts.

Those include a review of existing public safety measures and programs, and also issue recommendations on the best way to stop drivers from passing stopped school buses.

It would also create a public safety campaign.

The National School Transportation Association says there are 15 million illegal passing incidents nationwide during each school year.
