Capital Region native finishes third on ‘American Idol’

Local News

UNITED STATES (WSYR-TV) — Capital Region native Madison Vandenburg finished third on “American Idol” Sunday night, being eliminated in the first vote of the night.

The 17-year-old performed twice Sunday night but finished behind Laine and Alejandro in the season finale.

Before her place announcement, Vandenburg’s high school held a viewing party to cheer her on and her classmates said they are so proud of all she has accomplished.

“We’re not disappointed at all in Madison. We know she gave it her all and we know that she’s our American Idol and she’s amazing,” said Mariam Rahman.

Her schoolmates say even though she didn’t win, her musical career is far from over.

Katy Perry even compared Vandenburg to the first “American Idol” winner, Kelly Clarkson.
