They say it takes a village, but how about an entire school district?

Chittenango is rallying around a 9-year-old girl putting up a big fight.

It was a normal January day when Isabella “Izzy” Vecchio got sick. What her family thought was the stomach bug turned out to be brain cancer.

“It’s been really tough,” said Elise Vecchio, Isabella’s mom.

Doctors were able to remove most of the tumor, but she has a long road ahead.

“Everyday is like a tiny bit worse,” said Izzy.

Izzy is a fighter, and she’s got an entire district by her side. Chittenango has been trading in its Bear red for Isabella’s favorite color, blue. The high school students even made a video to show their support.

“I feel happy that they’re thinking about Izzy and supporting her each and every day,” said Carina, Izzy’s younger sister.

Her sisters, Carina and Sophia help lift her spirits, along with hundreds of cards from the community.

“It’s been great the amount of love she’s been getting from everybody,” said Matt Vecchio, her dad.

Even getting love from Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse University men’s basketball team, signing a basketball for Izzy.

The district of Chittenango is all hoping for the same thing. “[That] she gets better and better each day,” said Carina.

It’s a big battle, but one Izzy won’t face alone.

The family has a GoFundMe page set up to help with medical bills.
