The Onondaga Historical Association is teaming up with a local brewery to bring back a favorite Central New York beer.
Willow Rock Brewery in Syracuse will take over the brewing of the beer.
Congress Beer was once the most popular beer in Central New York for decades.
“I currently have a Congress Beer tray displayed for visitors in my office in Washington DC to honor a great brewery and large part of central New York’s history. I may be biased, but I think having a congressional brewery here in NY24 is pretty cool, and was ecstatic to hear about its comeback,” said Rep. John Katko.
It was initially brewed by Haeberle Brewery and the beer became so popular that its name was incorporated into the brewery’s– Haeberle-Congress Brewery.
The secret recipe was donated to the OHA in 1962 when the brewery closed its doors for good.
Congress Beer will be based on the same recipe but will updated for today’s tastes.
The beer will launch at the end of July.
