A Corning man will spend the next 2.5 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
Between 2013 and December of 2016, 54-year-old Kevin Theil, a former employee of Corning Inc., had over 300 images of child porn on his laptop.
He was arrested last February after search warrants were executed at his home in Corning and at his lake house in Hammondsport.
In November 2016, an Ithaca woman alerted authorities that she knew a man from Corning who had a sexual interest in children. The woman said Theil showed her naked images of young girls who were around seven or eight years old.
The woman said Theil admitted to her that he had previously sexually abused his niece on multiple occasions when she was 14.
Theil additionally asked the woman to set up a sexual encounter with a minor.
Over 367 images of child pornography were discovered on Theil’s laptop.
Along with spending 30 months behind bars, Theil will also serve 10 years of post-release supervision.
