Correction: An earlier version of this story contained incorrect information on what Shawn Doyle admitted to in Richland Town Court that appeared on LocalSYR.com on September 25, 2018.  Mr. Doyle “did not” admit to having a relationship with a 15-year-old boy during the legal proceeding.

A former Oswego County legislator has been sentenced after pleading guilty to endangering the welfare of a child.

Shawn Doyle was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge, which means if he obeys the order of protection to stay away from the victim, the charges will be dismissed.

The charges Doyle pleaded guilty to involved him providing money to the teen, despite being told not to by the boy’s parents, Child Protective Services and the teen’s school.

In October 2017, the 15-year-old’s mother told investigators that Pulaski school counselor James Maroney suggested to the teen’s parents that their son work for county legislator Shawn Doyle last spring.
