It was three years ago that a crash took the lives of three people from the Syracuse area.
Jahlmiria Jones, 25, Maurice Watkins, and Tiffeny Correa, both 19, all died in a crash along Erie Boulevard East.
But the Cuse Strong event at the Syracuse Boys and Girls Club was all about keeping their memory alive.
“We’ve turned this from a day of mourning to a day of celebration,” said Nitch Jones, the brother of Jahlmiria.
From poetry readings to singing and dancing, Thursday night’s event was a celebration of those lives lost too soon.
“We’re raising money for scholarships, we’re raising money for the dance team. So we’re giving back to the community just as much as we’re receiving the love and support that we’re getting as well,” Jones said.
Jones plans to continue to ensure that his sister and her friends are never forgotten, and that their memory is used to support the youth in this community.
