DA says trooper was justified in using force against man who lunged at them with knife

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Oneida County District Attorney says a State Trooper was justified in shooting a man who lunged at troopers with a knife.

Back in April, State Police were called to a home on Golly Road in the Town of Lee for a medical issue. Investigators found Tyler Johnson, 24, face down on his bed. Johnson lunged at troopers with a knife and despite being told to drop the weapon, he refused.

A trooper fired seven rounds at Johnson, who later died at Rome Memorial Hospital.

The DA’s office says no further action will be taken.
