A Syracuse man has been taken into custody, accused of burglarizing two homes in the Village of Marcellus.

Around 5:36 p.m. Tuesday, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputies say a homeowner on South Street noticed their window was shattered and that a small amount of money was missing.

While deputies were investigating that incident, they were called to a burglary in progress on Bradley Street.

Deputies saw the broken window, and while searching the house, they found 27-year-old Nicholas Olenych hiding in an upstairs closet.

Olenych was charged with second-degree burglary and third- and fourth-degree petit larceny.

While deputies were taking Olenych into custody, a woman rear-ended an unoccupied Sheriff’s Crime Scene van parked on South Street.

The driver, 42-year-old Holly Laprade, was charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08% or higher.

Olenych is being held at the Justice Center on $2,500 cash or bond. Laprade is scheduled to appear in Marcellus Town Court next month.
