Deputies: Drunk driving blamed in deadly car-bike crash

TOWN OF COLUMBUS, CHENANGO COUNTY (WSYR-TV) Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies say one person is dead after a car-bicycle crash along State Route 80 in the Town of Columbus early Saturday morning.

Deputies say 30-year-old Martin Logsdon, Jr was riding his bike in the westbound lane of State Route 80 when he was struck by a car driven by 49-year-old Allen R. Emrich of New Berlin.

Logsdon was pronounced dead at the scene.  At the scene, deputies determined that Emrich was driving his car with a blood alcohol content of more than .08% with a child in the vehicle.

Emrich has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child.

Emirch was arraigned in Town of Columbus court.   The investigation is continuing.
