DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Two people escaped a fire at a home just after noon on Wednesday at Washburn Drive in the Town of DeWitt.

A dog was rescued from the house but did not survive.

Investigators say it looks like the fire started in the attic area over the garage. The home was badly damaged.

DeWitt Police Chief John Anton told NewsChannel 9 the DeWitt Police have responded twice to that address in the past 3 1/2 years for manufacturing of meth.
