State Senator Bob Antonacci used his time at a hearing with the State Department of Transportation to asking about a long open-ended question – when will the I-81 DEIS be released?
The DEIS, or DRAFT Envionmental Impact Statement, will offer details on the three remaining options to replace the I-81 viaduct through Downtown Syracuse.
The study includes an underground tunnel, a street-level community grid and replacing I-81 with another elevated highway through downtown.
State Assemblyman Al Stirpe has recently said he expects the DEIS out in the next few weeks.
Antonacci point blank asked the DOT’s Executive Deputy Director Ron Epstein: “You don’t have an exact date?”
Epstein responded: “Don’t have an exact date but it’s in the near future.”
