Local News

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The General Election is still months away but the State deadline has just passed for determining early voting sites in each county around New York.

Starting this Fall for the first time ever here in New York State all registered voters will be able to cast ballots before election day.

It’s part of the voting reform package passed earlier this year by the State Legislature and signed by the Governor.

Starting October 26 early voting sites will be open for a total of nine days.

There will be no early voting the day before election day.

Sites will vary in number based on registered voters in each county.  Hours will also be specific to each county.

Cortland will have one site at 112 River Street, the County Board of Elections.

Madison also will have one site at 138 North Court Street, Building 4, right in the Board of Elections office next to the DMV.

Oswego will have one site at 185 East Seneca Street, across the hall from the Board of Elections.

It will also be one site for Seneca County, which will be at the County Office Building located at 1 DiPronio Drive in Waterloo.  The polling site will be across from the hall from the Board of Elections.

Tompkins County will have two sites  One will be at the Ithaca Town Hall and the other will be at the Crash, Fire and Rescue Building on Brown Road near the airport.

There will be three sites in Cayuga County with one at Clifford Park in Auburn and still to be determined locations in Town of Venice and Town of Conquest.

Oneida County will also have three sites, with one at the Boehlert Center at Union Station, the New Hartford Town Hall, and the Westmoreland Fire Department.

Onondaga County will have six sites:

Clay Town Hall, DeWitt Town Hall, LaFayette Fire Station, Armond Magnarelli Community Center at McChesney Park in Syracuse, the Southwest Community Center in Syracuse and the Van Buren Town Hall.

This is for the general election only, this fall, it will not be in place for the June primaries.

Friday, May 31 is the deadline to register for the June 25th primaries.

If you mail your registration it must be postmarked May 31.

You have until mid-October to register for the General Election this Fall.
