NEW YORK STATE (WSYR-TV) – The Erie Canal has opened for the season. This is the 195th year that the canal has been open for boating.
Officials are reminding boaters to take it slow through the locks and obey all canal signs.
And if you keep your eyes open, you might see a new tugboat on the canal.
One dubbed the Elizabeth Cady Stanton, named after the American suffragist and activist, the tugboat is one of the newest vessels added to the Canal Corporation’s fleet in more than 70 years.
