F-M surprises West Genesee in a showdown of state-ranked boys lacrosse teams

Local News

It always seems that when F-M and West Genesee meet in boys lacrosse, the game goes right down to the wire and is decided by a goal or two– but that was not the case on Tuesday night.

As the Hornets jumped out to a 6-0 lead on their home field and never looked back.  F-M handed West Genesee just its second loss of the season 15-6.

This was a matchup of state-ranked teams– F-M went into the night ranked #18 in the Class A poll while the Wildcats checked in at #4.  It was the lower ranked team though that set the tone right from the start.

Former NewsChannel 9 Athlete of the Week Donovan Welsh had a hat trick in the first quarter and finished with seven goals (to go along with two assists) for the Hornets.

Mac Fish chipped in with five points (on two goals and  3 assists).

With the victory, F-M improves to 8-3 on the season.  The Hornets will return to action Thursday at Baldwinsville.  The Bees are ranked #21 in the state.  West Genesee meanwhile, drops to 10-2 on the season.  The ‘Cats visit Syracuse on Friday.
