(WSYR-TV) — New data suggests plastic face shields aren’t getting the job done when it comes to protecting against COVID-19.

Research presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases tested 32 different types of masks, respirators and shields to see how they contain tiny aerosol particles.

They found certified surgical masks offered the best filtration, while face shields provided little to no protection at all.
