Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer, which means campgrounds will be filled to the brim, including Green Lakes State Park. For one family, spending the weekend there is a tradition, decades in the making.
For over 30 years the Anderson family has spent the weekend at the park.
“When the kids were all little, the kids would just play and it was just fun; we had a really good time. They were all so little and now they’re all grown up,” said Debbie Anderson, mother of six.
But now, the six are grown up with kids of their own; passing the tradition down to a third generation.
“It’s pretty much the same as it was. I think that’s the fun part of it, it’s that traditional like every year, now my kids are just as excited to come. They can’t wait to go camping, you know,” said Shannon Eichman, Debbie’s daughter and mother of Eric and Marcus.
The family says they will enjoy their weekend, no matter what the weather.
