UPDATE: Man featured as Fugitive of the Week arrested by Syracuse Police thanks to viewer tips

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – Less than a week after he was featured as the NewsChannel 9 Fugitive of the Week, Syracuse Police have arrested 29-year-old James Everson.

Warrant unit supervisor Sgt. Mike Smith said thanks to viewer tips officers were able to locate Everson and make an arrest Saturday.

Everson was wanted for first-degree Criminal Contempt for an incident that occurred on July 20. He was arrested and charged with murder in the second-degree and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the shooting death of 18-year-old Jamire Gillard.

“Mr. Everson is a dangerous individual. He’s got a pretty extensive arrest record, with a lot of weapons involved, in most of his past arrests,” said Sgt. Smith.

Syracuse Police had checked a number of addresses on the Syracuse’s North and South Sides but had been unsuccessful in locating Everson until the weekend.

Up the Count! Everson is the 450th fugitive featured on NewsChannel 9 to be arrested.
